Arthur “Skip” Maggiora, who founded Sacramento, California-based Skip’s Music, passed away on Feb. 23 after a long battle with kidney disease. He was 75.

Skip’s Music has two locations, one in Sacramento and one in nearby Elk Grove, California, and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

“With a career spanning more than 50 years, Skip is a local icon, leaving behind a legacy of contributions and achievements in the music industry and as a local business owner,” Mike Snyder, Skip’s Music’s vice president, told local outlet The Sacramento Bee. “He was a visionary who always contemplated the next move. He established himself early as a dependable and reliable resource for the professional and hobbyist musician.”

Maggiora opened his first store in Sacramento in 1973, eventually moving the store to its current Auburn Boulevard location in 1980. The two-story, full-line dealership is known for working with pros and amateurs alike. Maggiora’s drum and guitar clinics were sought-after events routinely featuring the top players sponsored by music’s iconic brands, including Zildjian, Yamaha, Paiste and Pearl.
