S.E. Shires Recognized for Cleaner Manufacturing
S.E. Shires has been recognized for its cleaner manufacturing initiatives through a series of grants and state-wide acclaim in Massachusetts. This acknowledgement marks a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The journey towards safer manufacturing practices began about a decade ago when the company partnered with the Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) cleaning laboratory and the Massachusetts Office of Technical Assistance to focus on solutions that prioritized employee and environmental health and safety.
Through a series of grants and testing, S.E. Shires discontinued vapor degreasing and embraced aqueous cleaning as an alternative. By transitioning to safer cleaning systems, S.E. Shires not only guarantees the highest quality but also prioritizes the health and safety of the musicians who play them and the skilled craftspeople who build them.
“We are honored to have been a part of the Champions of Toxics Use Reduction Day Ceremony at the Massachusetts State House and to have hosted a recent visit with our State Representative and other members of various government programs at our factory,” said Chuck Shepherd, safety and human resources manager.
