Proel North America Appoints Dave Black to Tamburo Drums
Proel North America has announced the appointment of Dave Black to the position of artist and market development advisor for Tamburo Drums, the Italian-made line of acoustic drums. In his new role, Black will support the North American launch and market development of Tamburo Drums as both an artist and in his role as market development advisor.
Of Tamburo Drums, Black said in a statement from the company, “Like the fine Italian luthiers of the 17th and 18th centuries, the tradition has continued into the 21st century with the exquisite craftsmanship of Tamburo Drums. Made in Italy, these are among the finest and best-sounding drums I’ve ever played and heard. I’m proud to play a part in the launch of Tamburo Drums in North America.”
In announcing the appointment, Antonio Ferranti, president of Proel North America said, “Tamburo Drums, handmade in Italy and highly respected throughout Europe and internationally for over 35 years, is finally coming to the United States and Canada, and requires a market advisor and industry liaison who has the respect of the drum community’s top artists, performers, educators, students, and retailers. Dave Black, among the drum industry’s best-selling authors and educators, is uniquely qualified to help introduce Tamburo to North America.”
Black is the author or co‑author of several best-selling books, including Alfred’s Drum Method, Books 1 & 2; Alfred’s Beginning Drumset Method; Drumset 101 and more. As an active member of the Percussive Arts Society, Black served on the National Board of Directors for six years, was a member of the Sustaining Members Advisory Council, and was selected to host and chair the 1991 Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Anaheim, California. He is the former vice president and editor-in-chief (school and pop publications) for Alfred Music, where he worked for 35 years.
