NASMD Canceled Over COVID-19
The National Association of School Music Dealers announced today, March 12, that it canceled its 2020 Convention, which was scheduled March 25 to 28 in St. Petersburg, Florida, due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, otherwise known as the coronavirus. It said it a statement it did so based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local officials.
“The health and safety of our membership is of the highest importance and we feel, based on the rapidly evolving situation, that this is the responsible course of action,” the statement read in part, going on to specify that NASMD’s show will proceed next year in Puerto Rico. That convention is scheduled for March 10 to 13.
“With the presidential address on television and Florida’s governor declaring a state of emergency and the World Health Organization declaring this a pandemic, it was the socially responsible thing to do,” said Whitney Brown Grisaffi, president of NASMD and president of Ted Brown Music in Tacoma, Washington.
