Metal Rocker Gus G Launches Blackfire Pickups

Metal guitarist Gus G, known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne and Firewind, has announced he has launched his own pickup company, Blackfire Pickups.

Through different ongoing cooperations with some of the industry’s biggest brands over the past years, the company’s statement said Gus developed a precise and distinctive idea about how he wants his gear to function and sound.

“Creating my own pickups was a dream come true,” Gus said. “This wasn’t about making another signature piece of gear but rather creating something new from scratch based in my 20-year-long experience [of] touring and recording professionally. Being on a constant search for the perfect tone, I wanted to make the pickup will be suitable not only for myself, but for any rock and metal player that’s looking for solid, uncompromising tone.”

Gus said he has worked on the Blackfire Pickups line for several years and has now released the first two offerings: The Proteus and Immortal sets. Originally exclusively for his latest Jackson signature models, the pickups are now available as standalone products and available for preorder.

The Immortal passive humbucker is a high output passive humbucker pickup set based on an Alnico 5 magnet. This is a great pickup for rock and metal tones boasting a powerful midrange boost that provides crunchy rhythm tones and screaming leads.

The Proteus active humbucker pickup set features a powerful rich tone and expressive feel. The pickups come with a high output, low-noise preamp that blend kick and distortion with well-balanced EQ and rich harmonics.
