Former NAMM chairman and Roland U.S. president Dennis Houlihan passed away at his home in Long Beach, California, on Sept. 5. He was 74 years old.

Houlihan was born into a musical family in Davenport, Ohio, on March 24, 1950. After years as a demonstration artist for Lowrey Organs, Houlihan joined Roland Corporation U.S. in 1993 and was eventually named CEO and president. He was Roland Japan’s first American on its board of directors. During his time as Roland CEO, he also served on the NAMM board of directors for a decade and was NAMM’s first commercial chairman from 2005–2007.

Houlihan eventually retired from his post, but remained active in the industry in his later years. Check out our forthcoming October issue for industry reflections on Houlihan’s many contributions to the music products community.
