Fender CEO Pens Letter of Support for Music Education
Ahead of the Nov. 8 election day, Fender CEO Andy Mooney has shared an open letter advocating for Prop 28 — a bill on California’s November ballot aiming to provide additional funding for arts and music education in all California public schools, almost $1 billion annually, without raising taxes. Prop 28 will also improve equity with additional funding for schools that serve low-income families.
Fender is headquartered in Hollywood, California — the arts and entertainment capital of the world and the company said in a statement that it is “invested in the future of its performers.” Music and arts education has been shown to support cognitive development as well as students’ mental well-being as its programs develop students who are more engaged and resilient. Students from low-income backgrounds with an arts education are less likely to drop out of school, more likely to receive a research degree, and more inclined to pursue a professional career.
