Mitsuo Kasahara Passes Away

Mitsuo Kasahara, the first president of Yamaha Corporation of America, died Oct. 27 at 90 years old.

According to NAMM's Oral History program, Kasahara established the first Yamaha offices in North America, beginning in 1958 with the company's first office in Mexico. In 1961, Kasahara established Yamaha's Southern California branch office. Adding to the firsts Kasahara achieved while at Yamaha, he was the first employee to work the company's booth the first time it exhibited at The NAMM Show in 1957.

"I am honored to have had the opportunity to have met Mr. Kasahara and to have captured some of his stories for future generations to hear and learn from," said Dan Del Fiorentino, music historian for NAMM. "Thank you to those who helped make this important interview possible. He will be missed."
