Ponce De Leon Music Celebrates 50 Years

Ponce De Leon Music Center in Cumming, Georgia, celebrated its 50th anniversary with an outdoor festival Aug. 18.

Co-owner Kathy Hines and her family took on the business last year, and she said the event was a way to honor the family that ran Ponce De Leon Music Center for decades.

"We just wanted to pay tribute to the family that started it, and the fact that it is still a family-run business even after 50 years is monumental," Hines said.

Held at the full-line music store's 10,000-square-foot location, the anniversary celebration included live music by local musicians, activities for families and a drawing for a store gift certificate. Some of Ponce De Leon Music Center's more than 500 lesson program students also performed at the festival, which drew in approximately 150 guests.

"When we decided to plan it, we wanted to celebrate with the community because it is the community that keeps us in business," Hines said.

Under her family's ownership, Hines wants to continue to honor original owner Max Fischer and his family by keeping Ponce De Leon Music Center successful.

"[I hope that] we are able to continue the legacy and make the Gore Fischer family proud," Hines said.
