NOV. 29 I GUITAR CENTER I LEGAL
Guitar Center Violates Labor Laws

On Nov. 7, The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruled that Guitar Center violated federal labor laws by refusing to bargain in "good faith" on first written contract proposals for workers in Chicago, Las Vegas and New York City, reported Bloomberg BNA.

Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Charles J. Muhl with the NLRB decided that company officials "engaged in numerous tactics designed to delay negotiations." Muhl ruled that the retailer violated the National Labor Relations Act by engaging in what's known as "surface bargaining."

Muhl requested that the NLRB order Guitar Center "to meet, upon request, with the Union and bargain in good faith concerning the terms and conditions of employment" in the three cities.

Within 14 days, Guitar Center locations in Chicago, Las Vegas and New York also must post an official NLRB notice, which outlines employee rights and states that the company has violated Federal labor laws under the National Labor Relations Act.
