Guitar Center Names New President, CEO

Guitar Center announced Nov. 17 that it has named Darrell Webb its new president and CEO, effective immediately. Webb was recruited by the company's board of directors to lead Guitar Center as the company looks to capitalize on its growth prospects. Webb replaces former CEO Mike Pratt, who resigned on Nov. 17.

Webb has more than 30 years of experience in retailing and has led several multi-billion dollar retailers through periods of rapid growth. From 2011 to 2013, Webb served as chairman and CEO of The Sports Authority. Prior to that, Webb was chairman, CEO and president of Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores, which saw record earnings during his leadership. Webb also spent more than 20 years with Fred Meyer, Inc. and The Kroger Company, following its merger with Fred Meyer. At Kroger, Webb most recently served as president of Fred Meyer Stores from 2002 to 2006.
