Hello Music Opens Online Marketplace

Online retailer Hello Music has opened its new Marketplace, an online platform where musicians can sell used gear directly to other musicians.

It's free for Hello Music members to list their gear, but the company receives a seven percent commission when an item is sold. (If the item is returned, Hello Music reverses the commission.) It offers flexible selling options for both fixed price or "make an offer" sales.

Gear in the Maketplace is also promoted on Hello Music's daily e-newsletters which reach more than 500,000 active members.

“This is just another step forward in centralizing a market for independent musicians who are serious about their craft,” said Rick Camino, CEO of Hello Music. “Plus, many of our members need to sell something in order to buy something, so we wanted to give them an all-inclusive platform to handle everything related to their gear within the Hello Music community.”

The new Marketplace adds another unique feature to Hello Music's already unconventional, social commerce business model. The Los Angeles-based startup (which was featured on the cover of the January 2013 issue of Music Inc.) features short term deals — usually lasting only about 48 hours — which are only visible to Hello Music members.
