D.C. City Council Celebrates Middle C Music

On March 6, the Washington, D.C., city council raved about Middle C Music as the company celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Council members paused their deliberations to honor the full-line retailer, which one councilor called "a community anchor." Middle C Music is owned and operated by Myrna Sislen, who's also a columnist for Music Inc.

"So many of our residents come through your store to purchase something, take lessons, to hear music," said councilwoman Mary Cheh.

"My daughter took guitar lessons there," said councilman Jack Evans, adding that being in "business for 10 years, particularly a small business, [is] a real achievement."

Cheh and Evans both swung by Middle C Music on the night of March 22 to present a city council resolution honoring the store. Mayor Vincent Gray also showed up to present a proclamation. This was followed by performances from Maureen Andary and Esther Haynes, both teachers at the dealership, as well as student group The Middle C Music Rock Band.

"I am thrilled and honored that the council would celebrate Middle C," Sislen said. "What a wonderful way to kick off our anniversary celebrations."
