Steinway Partners With Florida University for Scholarships

Greg Billings, owner of the Steinway Piano Gallery in Naples, Fla., emceed the 2011 Florida Gulf Coast University/Steinway Piano Competition Awards Recital on May 15. The event took place at the Florida Gulf Coast University U. Tobe Recital Hall in Fort Myers, Fla.

Sixteen finalists, selected from 68 total participants, played their winning pieces and were awarded trophies, certificates and scholarships totaling more than $5,000.

The awards were presented by Competition Chairperson Meghan Brachle and Competition Director Dr. Michael Baron, professor of piano studies at The Bower School of Music.

"This competition reflects FGCU's and Steinway's spirit of excellence in the arts, and we commend the students, parents, piano teachers and sponsors on their dedication to music," Billings said.

The top prize, The Mary Jane Schneider Outstanding Piano Performance Award, went to Noah Waddell. The finalists will perform in a recital at the Steinway Piano Gallery this fall.
