Sidney Harman, founder of Harman Audio, passed away on April 12 due to complications from acute myeloid leukemia. He was 92. The audio pioneer co-founded Harman/Kardon in 1953 and remained the chairman emeritus until his death. "His legacy of leading-edge innovation and premium quality will continue to live on at Harman," said Dinesh Paliwal, Harman's chairman, president and CEO. "I am grateful to Dr. Harman for the trust he placed in the company's management to carry on his legacy." In August 2010, Harman purchased Newsweek magazine from The Washington Post Co. He learned of his illness one month prior to his death yet remained vigorously engaged as executive chairman of Newsweek and chairman of the Academy for Polymathic Study at the University of Southern California. Harman died in Washington, D.C., surrounded by his wife and children.
