FEB. 16 I YAMAHA I PROMOTIONS
Yamaha Drum Featured in Super Bowl Ad
Thwak Music!, an original music and music supervision company led by founder Tony Verderosa, recently helped create the 60-second Sony commercial, "Surgeon," which debuted during the Super Bowl on Feb. 6.
Thwak! used Yamaha's DTX950K electronic drum set and DTX-MULTI 12 electronic percussion pad to deliver the rhythmic original score for the cinematic spot, which promotes the upcoming Xperia Play Android phone from Sony Ericsson. The tense drums, eerie sound effects and precise orchestral bursts pace the ad, which shows the back-alley creation of a robot that rises up, ready to use the new Xperia Play.
"My background as a composer and classically trained percussionist made Thwak! the right fit for this project," Verderosa said. "Working under a tight deadline, we understood that the sound for 'Surgeon' needed to be orchestral, cinematic and tribal, without ever stepping on the narrative. So the challenge is to make a major movie-type score without it getting too dense."
