FEB. 16 I CHARLES KAMAN I TRIBUTE
Kaman Founder Passes Away

Charles Kaman, founder of Kaman, passed away on Jan. 31 from complications of pneumonia. He was 91.

Early in his career, Kaman saw the importance of efficient distribution in the music industry and acquired Coast Wholesale and, later, C. Bruno & Son. This provided the first steps for KMC Music to establish a national distribution network.

In 1965, Kaman developed the Ovation Roundback guitar. He was responsible for applying composite materials, such as Adamas carbon graphite top, to guitar construction. Kaman was also the first to include pickups and preamps in the acoustic guitar, which contributed to the creation of the acoustic/electric guitar category.
