APRIL 10 I MUSEUM OF MAKING MUSIC I EXHIBIT
Music Museum Turns ON!
Beginning April 24, the Museum of Making Music will present “ON! The Beginnings of the Electric Sound Generation.” The exhibition will display examples of early electrified instruments from 1900 to 1965, including iconic electric and electro-acoustic guitars; lesser-known electric instruments, such as banjos, violins, basses, keyboards, amplifiers and effects pedals; and unusual applications of electrification, such as the electric zither. It will run through March 31, 2010.
The show includes a series of special events that showcase the sound and evolution of electrified musical instruments:
April 24 at 7 p.m.: Exhibition Opening Reception and The Electric Effect Concert
Lynn Wheelwright, a private collector and expert on early pickup technology, will lead a discussion and answer questions about the vintage instruments from his personal collection, which will be on display. Following the reception at 8 p.m., The Electric Effect concert presented by The Blue Guitar will feature San Diego-based concert artists Robin Henkel, Steve Nichols, Steve Bernstein and DeForest Thornburgh. Tickets are $25 and $20 for members.

Wheelwright will lead a special tour designed for gearheads. Admission is $7 for adults; $5 for students, seniors and active military; and free for museum members.

Becomes Electric
Rick Turner will lead a conversation about the history of electric tone production and sound generation.
