JAN. 5 I MUSICIANS BARGAIN BASEMENT I CLOSING
Akron Dealer Closes

Musicians Bargain Basement of Akron, Ohio, recently closed shop after 21 years in business. The closing was the result of Internet competition and the economic decline, according to owner Steve Conley in a Dec. 21 article in The Akron Beacon Journal. Conley got his start selling drums out of his home in the 1980s.

“It is very much the sign of the times,” he said.

Bruce Fergason, a former band director and patron of Musicians Bargain Basement, said he was not surprised by the closing.

“Where are all the little grocery stores, the little gas stations, the little shoe stores?” Fergason said. “[We’ve] watched them all disappear.”

According to Conley, if the economy turns around, he would consider opening another music store.
