Music China Attracts
Record Numbers
Music China was held Oct. 9–12 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai, China. The show attracted a record number of visitors from 91 countries and exhibitors from 23 countries.
During a two-day period, NAMM University organized several hands-on courses taught by leading players in the Chinese market. Altogether, 950 people attended NAMM’s nine events, an increase of 53 percent compared to last year.
NAMM University also organized a panel discussion entitled “The impact of weakening economies on the global music industry.” The discussion included Huang Weilin, chairman of Guangzhou Pearl River Piano Group; Jon Gold, senior VP of marketing and sales for Fender; Werner Husmann, director of marketing and sales for Steinway & Sons; Joe Lamond, CEO and president of NAMM; Wu Hsieh, president of KHS; and Cheng Jiantong, president of Roland Shanghai.
“The panel discussion was probably the most popular panel discussion at NAMM U in China in three years,” said Betty Haywood, NAMM’s director of international affairs.
