SEPT. 23 I NINTENDO I TRENDS
Wii Music Takes
on Guitar Hero
Nintendo will release Wii Music on Oct. 20 in time for the holiday season. The new game brings Wii video game technology to music making. Wii Music simulates more than 60 musical instruments, including violin, steel drums, electric guitar — even cowbell — with a Wii Remote and Will Balance Board. The game is part of Nintendo’s Wii series, which includes Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Wii Play, among others.
Wii Music differs from games like Guitar Hero because it does not require hitting certain buttons at specific times. The Wii controls imitate instrument play with simple motions. Gamers can strum, shake, tap and drum along to music in a pressure-free, virtual environment.
Players can perform individually or with up to four players, use pre-set songs, or have improv jam sessions. Wii Music allows players to put a jazzy spin on folk tunes or transform classic Nintendo music — like the Super Mario Bros. theme — into Latin-flavored numbers.
