Terry Lewis to Retire from Yamaha
After 26 years with Yamaha Corp. of America, Terry Lewis will retire, effective June 27. He has most recently served as the Buena Park, Calif.-based company’s executive vice president and president of Yamaha Artist Services in New York City. He has been responsible for strategic planning, distribution, sales and marketing for a broad portfolio of musical products and music-related technologies at Yamaha Corp. of America, the largest subsidiary of Yamaha.
“I will certainly miss Yamaha a great deal,” Lewis said. “I love this company, its extraordinary people and magnificent products, and it has been a great privilege to work closely with my Yamaha family all these years. However, after months of reflection, I’ve determined that it’s time for me to open a new chapter in my life, and I fully intend to stay very involved in the music products industry.”
During his tenure, Lewis successfully introduced groundbreaking products in the United States, most notably the award-winning Disklavier piano, and created several trademarks for musical products that are now in global use. Most recently, he helped launch the Yamaha Music and Wellness Institute to advance the understanding of recreational music making as an effective lifestyle enhancement strategy.
“I want to thank Terry for his enormous contribution to Yamaha for nearly three decades,” said Hogan Osawa, president of Yamaha Corp. of America. “He has done an incredible job building a world-class organization and a highly capable team. His efforts have earned him the respect of so many people in our company and throughout our industry.”
Lewis has also served on numerous industry boards, including NAMM and the Piano Manufacturer's Association International. He is also an industry representative to the National Arts Policy Roundtable, sponsored by Americans for the Arts.
