FEB. 26 | LENTINE’S MUSIC | CLOSING
Lentine’s Music Closes Doors

Lentine’s Music’s recent saga of store closings came to a bitter end on Feb. 18 when the company shut down its remaining locations in Akron and Richmond Heights, Ohio.

The Akron-based business, a full-line operation founded by Joe Lentine in 1977, suffered from increased chain-store, mass-merchant and Internet competition, according to company head Mike Lentine.

“I think we stayed around too long,” he said in a Feb. 16 article in the Akron Beacon Journal, “Financial Woes Bring Final Note.” He added that the company could file for bankruptcy.

These closings came weeks after Lentine’s shut down its three other locations, in the Belden Village and Montrose areas and in Strongsville — all in Ohio. According to the Akron Beacon Journal article, those stores were closed in an effort to save the Akron and Richmond Heights locations.

Lentine’s lesson program had taught 300 students, and the company also rented instruments. All rental instruments will continue to be serviced.

The Lentine family is considering selling parts of the company, such as its mail-order and Internet business.
