Heid Music
Plans Move

After 30 years, Heid Music plans to move its Wisconsin Rapids location to Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

"The Rapids store has done a good job, but we've never been in love with the retail walk-in traffic aspect of it," said Todd Heid, president of Heid Music.

The Stevens Point store will be located in the former Mitchell Piano Works building.

"We've been working with the current owners who have retired from their piano store," Todd Heid explained. "[The Mitchells were] an affiliate band and orchestral dealer for us for about two years," he continued. "They have a really nice facility that was built in 2003. It's everything we love about a retail location."

The Stevens Point store, about 20 miles away from Wisconsin Rapids, is located on a high-traffic street and close to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, which has a vibrant music department, Todd Heid said.

Heid Music's full-time staff in Wisconsin Rapids will stay on board and three members of Mitchell Piano Works will join the team.

"We want to express our congratulations to the Mitchell's on their retirement and the opportunity to partner with them and their team," said DeDe Heid, executive vice president of Heid Music. "[We] appreciate the community for supporting us. We're getting into our 70th year, [and] that wouldn't be possible without those strong relationships that have been built. We're grateful, and we hope that people can appreciate that sometimes, when you evaluate things in your business, you have to try some new steps and keep moving."

The location is set to open March 1, 2018.
